You'll also notice that Todd is the highest bidder for the signed photo of Brooke White from American Idol.
Today Todd was looking through the auction and saw a 2-hour landscaping consultation. He thought "That's a stupid one. I wonder what people are bidding on that one." Then he saw I was the highest bidder.

little moment

Here was a "little moment" from my day: I was sitting in the chair with my covered-in-pink baby, contently sitting on my lap, Alex snuggling with me (that doesn't happen much these days:() on the other side, and Nathan (in his shark swim shorts) explaining to me, as he's running around, how his lego rocket he made is defeating Saturn and Jupiter (complete with sound effects); all the while eating homemade slightly over-baked brownies I once sold on the street corner in my bathingsuit.

(that was the world's longest run-on and on and on sentence. kinda like the time I spoke in church the entire sacrament meeting and they had to invite todd to speak the next Sun.... so embarrassing!)

Happy times:)

Baby eats pen

As I was trying to do the dishes the boys yelled, "Mom! Baby has pen all over her face!" You can't see it too well in the picture. Right after this picture she pooped out of her diaper all up her back... And that's how my day started.

My day also included:

"Boys clean up the toys in the living room."

"Boys clean up the toys in the living room."

"Boys clean up the toys in the living room."

"Boys clean up the toys in the living room."

"BOYS CLEAN UP THE TOYS NOW!!!!!!"

"Boys put your shoes on."

good news and bad news

Good news:
I finished all the painting downstairs, put the furniture back and even SWITCHPLATES on!

Bad news:
Our computer died so I can't post pictures. I'm on Todd's crappy work laptop right now. The boys and I are going through computer withdrawls really bad.

Bad news:
Stephanie and Christian Nielson got in a plane crash and got burned (click here to read the sad story). I love reading her blog (click to read) (before and after the crash).

Good news:
They are doing an online auction for them. Todd is donating a dozen eclairs for the auction. Click here to see the auction.

Good news:
You can now order super powers on the internet. Alex got on the dead computer today and told Nathan he was ordering super powers. After typing some keys he said, "It should arrive in one to two days."

The Beach with Rexy

I was putting Baby to sleep for her nap, and Nathan came in there with his swimsuit on and his other swim shorts on Rexy (pronounced "Raxy"). He told me they were swimming on vacation at the beach and said, "We laid on the towel for a while now we are going to take a run on the sand," and ran off.
Sorry, no picture though because I fell asleep with Baby.

Yesterday Nathan told me that he loves Rexy as much as me; and if our whole family died, he'd still have Rexy so he'd be ok. But if Rexy died, he'd have his family so he'd be ok.

Nathan, Rexy, Katherine and I went to some shops yesterday for fun. (Alex stayed home to play Titan Quest with Daddy). One store was PetSmart and there were lots of dogs in there so he asked me to hold his Rexy the whole time so none of the dogs would get him. He was really worried about that. Nathan would tell me, "Rexy wants to eat things in the store." So we had to tell Rexy not to eat the goldfish, and other things we saw.

I had to add this-- just now Nathan said pointing to his toys (Rexy, Sharky, dinosaur toys), "Wouldn't it be horrible if someone told me I had to eat these guys raw or die?" One of these days I should just follow the boys around and write down everything they say.

My Day

What a beautiful day it was! What a difference the sun makes! It was probably over 50 degrees-- Hallelujah!

Me: "Gosh, it's so bright I need my sunglasses! This is great!"

The blue sunny sky reflecting in the melting snow and ice...Spring here we come!!

I went to a home decorating store (Tai Pan) today and came out of the store with my head spinning because there were so many things I wanted in that store (went home and took 2 advil). I did get a cute Easter decoration for $2.98 that's on my coffee table:

Nathan: "How much is this, Mommy? Can we get it?"

Alex: "I'm going to save my allowance for this..."

Alex and Nathan: "We're going to save our allowance for this."

Alex to Nathan (who is going crazy like a self proclaimed "wild onion"): "Listen you diabolical student!" (and hitting stick thing on the back of chair)

In the car the boys talked about buffalo and other randomness and made me laugh, and they decided to play a game of all the games in the world when we got home. Nathan to me: "Does that sound like awesome? Do you want to play?"

Everywhere we went everyone oogles over my cute baby:

Katherine: "Thanks Emily and Erika for the dress, and Thanks Nana for the coat!"

These are the smiles she smiled at me today (she's looking at me). Aren't I SO lucky? The other day we were at Del Taco and a little girl came up and said, "I wish I was her mommy."

Painting

Yesterday I spent the day painting, painting and painting. I am finally finishing the painting project I started almost a year and a half ago in the downstairs living room.

Though I loved the artwork...

Neglected child #2: looks like the paint fumes are getting to him...
Neglected child #3: and very happy about that because that means Mommy is not monitoring computer time (What's with the Terminator look?)

Tip of the Day:

But I am happy with the color and half of the texturing (the one pictured above)
More pictures to come when I am all the way done.

Random Thoughts

I am painting today-- I'll post about that with pictures tomorrow, but for now I thought I'd write about some thoughts I have.
First, it seems like a lot of people lately are telling me how lucky I am, so that has been a theme in my thoughts lately. I'm grateful that I have so much. I really am lucky/blessed.

Another thing I am thinking about as I paint is about how my sisters Allison and Kerry both chose the color "teepee brown" to paint their walls. There are millions of paint colors out there and it was such a coincidence that they both chose the same color! Another coincidence-- the other day I was on a date with Alex in Provo and we decided to go through the McDonald's drive thru. Guess who pulled up right behind us? Ryan and Shannon! What a coincidence that we happened to be in the same town and go to McDonalds at exactly the same time. I think it's more than coincidence though, we are family! We've got some kind of family vibe going...or somethin...

Sugar and Spice...

...and everything nice, that's what This Baby is made of!!

Kerry touched up this photo for me and it's so adorable! I'm going to frame it.

Isn't this a nice picture? I got it here

Allison's pics

Here are some really cute pics of my sister Allison's family- click here.

Cute Kids Pictures

Here's Katherine all bundled up....thanks, Allison, for the coat!
The boys are scheming...they like to invent traps. Here's a trap they made and the pretend brownie is the bait. They had me test it out and when I took the brownie they pull the tape measure and I pretended to scream. Alex said, "It worked perfectly, Nathan."

A while back Alex got a big sucker with a big red bow on it and he took off the bow and gave it to me and said that I could use it for Baby (cute). So here she is in the cute bow Alex gave her. Have you ever seen anything so cute in your whole life?????

After she has a shower her hair gets really fuzzy so I tried to hairspray it down today.

Look at those beautiful (tired) blue eyes!

Rexy Goes to Church and other irreverent stories

Today we were late getting to church (OF course) so we decided to just sit in the foyer. Well, I stayed up last night AGAIN browsing the internet for ideas about decorating Katherine's room.

This one's cute, huh?

Since I was sleep deprived, I was acting kind of goofy and making the kids laugh, so that got them going. Alex and Nathan were playing with Rexy and fell over on top of each other and I couldn't help but laugh! Todd was trying not to laugh, but you couldn't help but laugh, and this old guy in the foyer with us was trying not to laugh but he was, too. Sometimes you just can't help but laugh. But it IS a good thing Rexy could come to church, though. Yesterday he was in the hospital ALL day! Alex put him in the lava so he had to go to the hospital and all day Nathan wanted me to go up with him to visit Rexy neatly tucked under the covers on Nathan's bed. I didn't want to keep going upstairs to see Rexy and Nathan would say, "Come on, you know you love Rexy! So we gotta go see him!" As a side note, Alex wasn't being mean to Rexy, they were just playing a game. During the game, Nathan asked me if he could use Baby Katherine as a weapon to defeat Alex. How--I'm not sure and I don't want to know.

Random thoughts #2: It would be funny to have a video of our room during the middle of the night. We start out usually just Todd and I in bed, then in the night I hear little footsteps tearing across the dark and scary loft and into our room and Nathan snuggles between the two of us. Sometimes Alex will wake up and see Nathan gone and he comes in our bed and snuggles in between us, too. Then when I wake up our big hairy dog is on the bed at my feet. He knows he's not supposed to be on the bed, but he knows he can get away with it when we're sleeping I guess. Sometimes when Katherine wakes up at night I'll bring her to the party, too. Who knew a king size bed wouldn't be big enough??

Here are some random pictures for ya:

Nathan and I after being thrown out of church for being crazy:

Alex and I--can you tell I'm stealing him away from the computer?

Here's Baby politely waiting for more food. We started sitting her at the table yesterday and feeding her bits of our food. Last night she had Ratatouille. She says she's glad she can finally eat Daddy's nummy cooking!

Doesn't she look so cute--this little baby at the big table?

Where are you, Spring? (cont'd)

(April in CA)

...and fresh strawberries and fresh squeezed lemonade (especially with strawberries) and gardening and playgrounds and bike riding and...

(By the way, what's your favorite thing about spring?)

Where are you, Spring?

About this time of year, when the snow is old and dirty and crunchy, and it's so cold, I really start itching for spring. I REALLY want spring to be here-- Easter, sundresses, flowers, warmth, being outside again, flowers, plants, flowers, no snow and flowers.
A picture Todd took at Thanksgiving Point gardens April 2005.

2 videos from Nov. 2004

Here are Alex (2 years 3 months) and Nathan (11 months) Nov. 2004

Over the hill and through the woods to Grandmother's house we go

My boys are both 5 and older now, so they can go on an airplane alone. When I was a kid, I would fly to my Nana and Papa's house to visit them. This March the boys are going to fly to their Nana and Papa's house to be sufficiently spoiled. Nathan asked, "Will they let us have junk food for breakfast??" I told them Nana and Papa still have to keep them safe and healthy, but they'd probably get dessert after dinner-- "Just without nuts for me," added Nathan.

I told the boys they could stay for a week, but inside I wondered if it might be too long for them (or me). Then Alex said, "I want to stay for TEN days," and Nathan, my numbers kid said, "I want to stay for 5 plus 5 or 8 plus 2 days." (He LOVES numbers and counting and figuring out anything with numbers. Todd said he was like that as a kid too).

When I first asked the boys if they wanted to do this, they said, "awesome!" and gave each other high fives. Alex told me that on the plane that since I wouldn't be with him, he was going to order a forbidden COKE to drink. Look out Nana and Papa-- you may have a caffenated kid on your hands when they come off the plane!

Side note:
I saw this on Etsy and thought it was a great idea! I'm going to make my own Teddy Bear's Picnic basket for the kids for Easter, complete with the book, then we'll go on a picnic with their teddy bears. Sounds so fun! I need to have 10 more kids so that I always have a kid in the house. What would I ever do without kids in the house?!?!?!?!?!?! (me panicking)?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

The unusual care of our dog

We are such good dog owners! Ok, so maybe he's gotten 2 tickets for being loose and been on Craigslist a countless number of times, but he's a happy dog (when he's not in trouble).

Here's how we feed our dog: Just open the dog food bag. We used to have a dog dish for him, but I don't know what happened to it.
We do have a water bowl for him, but if he's upstairs and needs a drink, he jumps in the shower and waits for us to turn on the faucet to get a drink.

In the winter, this is how we give him a walk. When we say the word "carwalk" this is what he does:

Here's the "carwalk":

Sleepin' with the T-Rexes (4th post of the night)

On Friday, Nathan and I (Todd) went for a sleepover at the Dinosaur Museum.  Yes, really, the Dinosoaur Museum.  It was Nathan's birthday present from Kristie and I.  Nathan, who always tells us he's going to be a Palentologist when he grows up, was in heaven.  The Dino Museum is his favorite place on earth and he actually got to sleep there.  Not just at the museum, mind you, but under the T-Rexes!  No joke!  Here's the view from our not-so-comfortable spot on the floor:

That's right, we were looking straight up into the gaping jaws of one of the most ferocious animals to ever walk the earth.  At least they were already dead.  Here's the run-down of the night:

We got to the museum at about 7 pm and checked in.  First up on the agenda was a movie in the 3D theatre.  They gave us popcorn, drinks, and a candy and we got to watch a movie called Wild Ocean 3D.  It was about the Sardine migration off the coast of South Africa and was pretty neat.  Nathan was excited about the part with the sharks, of course.  He even kept his 3D glasses on the whole time, though he did grab my arm a few times to make sure he was still grounded.

After the movie, we got a guided tour of the museum.  Here's some pics:

Nathan's T-Rex Claws:

I think the guided tour was a bit much for Nathan, though.  His attention span was maxed out before we got halfway through but he just went into his T-Rex mode:

The last room along the tour is a big sand pit where the kids use paint brushes to 'uncover' fossils:

As we were playing in the sand, the museum workers came in and asked if the kids would like to see them feed the fish - there's one part in the museum where they have a tank of gar fish that are descended from one of the fossils on display.  Of course, all of the kids were excited.  What they neglected to tell us, though, is that gar fish are carnivorous.  We were all surprised when instead of dropping in some flakes, the lady dropped in four live goldfish!  One of the girls in the front said, "They're going to die!"

Nathan was right up next to the tank and I watched to see how he would react.  A goldfish was swimming along next to one of the gar fishes when, suddenly, the gar snapped it's head to the side and grabbed the goldfish in its mouth.  It sat there for a second, with the golfish hanging out on either side, and then swallowed the fish.  Nathan had a look on his face like he couldn't believe he was so lucky to get a front-row seat for the extravaganza!  He was enthralled.

After the fish feeding, they had the kids gather around and one of the museum workers asked them to name something new they had learned.  Most of the kids mentioned things they had seen along the way - with one commenting that he had learned that gar fish are carnivores (I think that was new for all of us) - but Nathan raised his hand and said:

"Um, um, um, um, um, my Daddy, um, um, um, told me, um, that we were coming here, um, um, um, um, like three or four um days ago, um, um, but, um, I didn't um know it was today and um, um, then, um, today, um, he told me, um um um, that we were going."

I think I got enough um's in there.  Anyway, it was dang cute.  Next, we went on a scavenger hunt - with clues leading us around the Museum.  Nathan was the youngest one there and the hunt was designed for the older kids, but he liked it just the same.  At the end of the scavenger hunt, he got to pick a prize.  Since they didn't have any T-Rex toys, he picked a dimetrodon, though he made the best of it anyway.  At breakfast, he told me that if you take away the sail on its back and it stood on two legs instead of four, it would be a T-Rex so he was going to name it "Rexie" anyway.  That's the name he gives to all of his T-Rexes.

After the prizes, the kids had to sit in a circle while they told about the rules for sleeping. After, they asked if there were questions and Nathan looked at me and I could tell he wanted to ask me something so I motioned for him to come over to me.  But he shook his head and raised his hand.  When they called on him, he just said "I have to ask my dad something" and then he came running over and asked me if we could sleep by the T-Rexes.  It was silly that he felt he had to wait until they called on him.

Here's Nathan, getting ready for bed with his stuffed T-Rexes:

And here's a shot of exactly where we got to sleep.  Notice that we're as close to both T-Rex skeletons as possible.  No other spot would do for Nathan!

Needless to say, I didn't sleep very well but I actually felt more rested in the morning than I had anticipated.  We had breakfast and then there were a few activities before it was time to go home.  First, we got to meat a real live palentologist!  The first room of the museum has a big window where you can look into the palentology lab so we stood there and he pointed things out to us.  They just started working on reconstructing a long neck skeleton and he showed us the pieces they were working on: some vertebrae from the neck.  He said it will take about 10 to 15 years to finish.  Sheesh.  As he described his work, he told the kids that palentologists have to love puzzles and that they usually describe it as having a puzzle with 1,000 pieces but all the pieces are turned over so you can't see the picture.  Nathan leaned over to me and said, "I can do that!"  He's sure that palentology is for him.

The palentologist also described how they have to be very careful as the remove the bones from the dirt and rock so that they don't damage the bones.  Nathan told me, "Remember the alligator I got from Color Me Mine? [It's a ceramic alligator]  Sometimes, I take it down and I'm sooo careful with it so it doesn't break and then I put it back."  Well, he can handle the puzzles and he can be careful with things - he's got the primary qualifications covered!

Next, we got to put together a wooden model of a Triceratops skeleton and then the kids got to make a plaster casting.  Nathan chose the T-Rex tooth, of course.  No questions there.  Next, he got to choose a fish fossil out of a bin and us a real palentologist drill to write his name on it.  After that, we played in the sand one more time and uncovered a stegosaurus skeleton before it was time to go.

All in all, we both had a great time.  It was fun to have some good one-on-one time with him and to see him so enthralled in everything.  Maybe he really will grow up to be a palentologist!

(3rd post of the night)

When we were driving to CA with Ryan and Shannon, Alex asked Shannon what she wanted him to get her for Christmas. She said he could draw her a puppy. Since we got home, Alex keeps saying that he needs to make Shannon's puppy! He called her to see what color dog she wanted, and what its name would be so he could put it on the food bowl. The next day I found Alex upstairs with the glue gun. This is what he had made:

The pointy thing is its ear. The big round brown thing is its bed, and the little brown things are.... its dog food.
The orange and blue thing is its food bowl that says "Bob" on it, and the white thing is the dog's food bag that holds the dog food---the little brown circles in front of it.

You can't see it well, but I'm trying to show you the dog food in the bag.

Ryan and Shannon came over tonight and Alex gave his gift to Shannon. She was thrilled!

(so cute!) (So creative!)
